True North Gems staking doubles Baffin Island sapphire property

Vancouver, January 28, 2007 - True North Gems (TGX: TSX-V) is pleased to announce the expansion of its Beluga sapphire property by staking six additional claims comprising 18.95 km2 contiguous to True North’s existing claims. The Beluga sapphire property, now covering 38 km2, is located near the hamlet of Kimmirut, along the south coast of Baffin Island, Nunavut, Canada.

The new claims were staked to cover additional occurrences of sapphire and scapolite, a diagnostic indicator mineral, extending to the southwest and southeast from the known sapphire mineralization, and highly prospective geology continuing to the north and northeast.

“Exploration on the Beluga property during 2007 continued to provide new discoveries containing colourless to blue, multi-carat sapphires. We remain very encouraged with the regional gemstone potential of the Lake Harbour marbles, and in light of the recent exploration success, another program of ultraviolet light prospecting, geological mapping and bulk sampling is planned for our expanded property holdings in 2008”, said Greg Davison, True North Gems’ Vice President Exploration.

The original property, staked in 2002, was comprised of two claims with an approximate area of 11.5 km2 and in 2005, two additional claims comprising approximately 6.95 km2 were staked contiguous to the west of the initial claims. True North Gems completed its earn-in obligations on the original claims in 2006 and now owns a 100% interest in all ten claims subject to a production royalty payable to the vendor.

The planning and execution of the sapphire exploration and quality control programs at the Beluga Project are under the supervision of Greg Davison, True North Gems’ VP Exploration. Mr. Davison is a Qualified Person as defined by National Instrument 43-101.
